An Evolved Exterior Design
The 2026 CX-5 features an evolved exterior influenced by the larger Mazda CX-70 and CX-90. While retaining Mazda’s KODO—Soul of Motion design philosophy, the CX-5 introduces several changes to its familiar signature.
The new CX-5 is approximately four inches longer overall and rides on a longer wheelbase. Its grille has been reshaped for a sleeker appearance, while subtle design details create a cleaner silhouette and profile. New LED lighting is found at both the front and rear, and the Mazda name is now spelled out across the liftgate.
More Room and Everyday Practicality
The additional length and longer wheelbase create a more practical interior. Larger rear-door openings make it easier for second-row passengers to enter and exit, while the expanded liftgate opening improves access to the cargo area.
Combined with a lower cargo load floor, the redesigned CX-5 makes it easier to load luggage, beach gear, groceries, and other items for daily life around Houston.
Rear passengers also benefit from additional legroom. Mazda has reconfigured the cabin to make better use of the available space while maintaining the comfortable, driver-focused environment CX-5 owners appreciate.
A More Advanced Mazda Cabin
The driver and front passenger will enjoy a cleaner and more thoughtfully arranged cockpit. For the first time in the model’s history, the CX-5 receives a fully digital instrument cluster.
The center display has also been positioned closer to the front occupants for easier interaction. Available display sizes range up to 15.6 inches, with capacitive-touch functionality helping create a more intuitive experience.
Google built-in is now part of the infotainment system, providing access to familiar navigation, communication, and entertainment features. The system also incorporates the Google Gemini assistant, which can recognize natural voice commands for vehicle functions and directions. Additional compatible apps can be downloaded through the Google Play Store.
Mazda has also elevated the cabin through the use of refined materials and added insulation. The result is an interior designed to feel more premium while reducing intrusion from road and wind noise.
Proven Performance with Standard All-Wheel Drive
The 2026 Mazda CX-5 lineup is powered by the proven 2.5 S powertrain. Its 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine produces 187 horsepower and is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission and standard i-ACTIV all-wheel drive.
Mazda has worked to preserve the responsive and engaging driving character that has helped make the CX-5 so popular. For the 2027 model year, a hybrid powertrain is also expected to join the CX-5 lineup.
