Performance
As Mazda adds more electrified drivelines, it makes sense for the 2026 CX-50 to add the first series hybrid to our lineup. The Hybrid driveline comprises a naturally aspirated 2.5-liter inline-4 engine with both port and direct fuel injection, as well as a single permanent magnet electric motor. The latter is powered by a 1.59-kilowatt-hour nickel-metal hydride battery. Combined, the driveline delivers a net combined 219 horsepower.
The Hybrid driveline is paired with an electronic continuously variable transmission and electronic all-wheel drive (AWD). The EPA fuel economy rates Hybrid models at 39 city/37 highway/38 combined. It is also rated to achieve a 551-mile range according to the EPA.
The 2026 CX-50 Hybrid’s four-wheel independent suspension features MacPherson struts in front and torsion beams in the rear. This is set up to do more than your average SUV could, which is why this suspension system works to handle roads away from the highway. The 2026 Mazda CX-50 Hybrid also comes with Electronic Power Assist Steering, along with four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes.
Exterior
Similar to the internal combustion models, the 2026 CX-50 Hybrid is made to get away. However, it follows the same overall organic look of the Kodo design language, which is found across the Mazda lineup. It has a refined appearance that is also purpose-driven. A larger window profile enables greater side vision, as well as front and rear views that offer the outward vision you need.
Wheel sizes range from 17 inches on Preferred and Premium models and 19 inches on Premium Plus models.
Interior
Mazda believes that the driver must be in command of their vehicle, while its passengers settle in for the ride. The 2026 CX-50 Hybrid is no exception. With standard seating for five, there is more than ample access to both rows of seats. The Preferred model is upholstered with half-leatherette seats, while Premium and Premium Plus models offer full leather-trimmed seats and trim. Both the front and rear seats are heated on Premium Plus models, and the front seats are ventilated on Premium and Premium Plus models. All 2026 CX-50 Hybrid models come standard with a dual-zone automatic climate control system.
The driver gets a combination of analog and digital instrumentation, including a seven-inch LCD meter display. In addition to the various controls and switches inside the 2026 CX-50 Hybrid, there is the EV mode button. This enables the hybrid system to drive at a lower rate of speed without engaging the internal combustion engine and exclusively using the electric miles.
The doors open wide for easier ingress and egress. The liftgate also opens high for better loading and unloading of cargo. You have a generous 29.2 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats, expanding to 56.3 cubic feet with the rear seats folded down.
Technology
The Mazda Connect Infotainment System begins with a knob located on the center console, accompanied by associated buttons and additional controls on the steering wheel. These all control the 10.25-inch full-color display located on top of the center stack. Wireless smartphone compatibility, Alexa Built-in, and wireless smartphone charging are standard on all 2026 CX-50 Hybrid models.
Bose offers a 12-speaker Centerpoint surround sound audio system on Premium and Premium Plus models. This delivers superb sound throughout the cabin. Also on Premium and Premium Plus models, you can tune into SiriusXM with hundreds of channels of music, news, comedy, talk…you name it! You start with a free three-month subscription to the satellite radio service.
Safety and Driver Assistance
