Performance

Adventure starts with the normally aspirated 2.5-liter inline-4 with SKYACTIV-G technology on 2.5 S models. These Skyactiv engines are developed with a higher-than-normal compression ratio to boost performance. The engine delivers 187 horsepower and 186 lb-ft of torque.

For more power, you can choose the 2.5-liter SKYACTIV-G turbocharged inline-4 with 256 horsepower and 320 lb-ft of torque, when fueled with Premium gasoline. You can run this engine on regular unleaded fuel, with a power rating of 227 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque. No matter which grade of fuel you put into your 2026 CX-50 Turbo, you get great performance and acceleration on any terrain.

Both engines are paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission, and i-ACTIV all-wheel drive (AWD) is standard. The EPA fuel economy rates 2.5 S models at 24 city/30 highway/26 combined, while Turbo models achieve around 23 city/29 highway/25 combined.

The 2026 CX-50’s four-wheel independent suspension features MacPherson struts in front and torsion beams in the rear. This is set up to do more than your average SUV could, which is why this suspension system works to handle roads away from the highway. The 2026 CX-50 also comes with Electronic Power Assist Steering, along with four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes.

Exterior

The 2026 CX-50 is made to get away. However, it follows the same overall organic look of the Kodo design language, which is found across the Mazda lineup. It has a refined appearance that is also purpose-driven. A larger window profile enables greater side vision, as well as front and rear views that offer the outward vision you need.

For 2026, some trim levels will get black badging, including the Mazda logo. This is made for the purpose of adding an extra layer of “cool” to your CX-50.

Wheel sizes range from 17 inches on 2.5 S Select and Preferred models, 18 inches on Meridian editions, and 20 inches on 2.5 S Premium, Turbo, and Turbo Premium Plus models. Meridian Editions also wear all-terrain tires.

Interior

Mazda believes that the driver must command their vehicle, while its passengers settle in for the ride. The 2026 CX-50 is no exception. With standard seating for five, there is more than ample access to both rows of seats. Select, Preferred, and Meridian Edition models are upholstered with half-leatherette seats, while Premium and Premium Plus models offer full leather-trimmed seats and trim. All 2026 CX-50 models come standard with a dual-zone automatic climate control system.

The driver gets a combination of analog and digital instrumentation, including a seven-inch LCD meter display.

The doors open wide for easier ingress and egress. The liftgate also opens high for better loading and unloading of cargo. You have a generous 31.4 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats, expanding to 56.3 cubic feet with the rear seats folded down.

Technology

The Mazda Connect Infotainment System begins with a knob located on the center console, accompanied by associated buttons and additional controls on the steering wheel. It all controls the 10.25-inch full-color display on top of the center stack. Wireless smartphone compatibility, Alexa Built-in, and wireless smartphone charging are standard on all 2026 CX-50 models.

Bose offers a 12-speaker Centerpoint surround sound audio system on 2.5 S Premium and all Turbo models. This delivers a superb sound throughout the cabin.
