How Well Does the 2026 Mazda CX-70 Drive?
February 15 2026 - Team Gillman Mazda

When it comes to mid-size two-row SUVs, the 2026 Mazda CX-70 offers a lot of space, comfort, and a choice of three drivelines that deliver a great experience for up to five people and all of your luggage or shopping. It comes standard with the i-ACTIV all-wheel-drive system, offering the confidence of year-round driving. Autoblog had a chance to take a 2026 CX-70 for a review to find out what makes it, in their words, “a new benchmark for driving feel.”

This is inherent in all Mazda models. The concept of “Jinba Ittai,” translated as “horse and rider as one,” is not exclusive to the MX-5 Miata. It is felt in the 2026 CX-70, thanks to Kinematic Posture Control. This feature affects all driving processes, from braking to the inside rear wheel during cornering. It pulls down the vehicle's inner rear corner, helping suppress body roll while providing enhanced steering precision and superb driving dynamics.

In addition, the suspension is comprised of double wishbones up front and a multilink configuration in the rear. Autoblog explains that the “chassis is tuned to provide balance, confidence, and agility that rival some luxury performance crossovers. The steering is direct and communicative, with natural weight that builds progressively through turns. Small adjustments in steering result in commensurate reactions, giving the driver a sense of precision and control. Even at highway speeds, its reflexes are superb.”

Because of Kinematic Posture Control, Autoblog added that “body roll is minimal, and the SUV remains planted even during quick transitions.” This feature also “helps tighten the vehicle’s line, reducing lift and maintaining stability through curves. The result is an SUV that feels lighter and more nimble than its size suggests.” Autoblog calls the entire driving experience “best in class.”

The 2026 CX-70 offers a great choice of performance options underneath the hood. Turbo models get the 3.3-liter in-line six-cylinder engine. The 270-horsepower version is not only turbocharged but also features a mild hybrid system that adds efficient torque. You can upgrade to the 340-horsepower Turbo S version of this engine for maximum performance.

Also available is the PHEV plug-in hybrid driveline, delivering 323 total system horsepower.  You can drive an estimated 32 miles on a full battery without engaging the gasoline engine.

In summary, Autoblog concluded that the 2026 Mazda CX-70 “sits at the top of its class in terms of driving dynamics. On the road, it feels closer to a sports sedan than a traditional crossover. With a rear-biased platform, smooth and powerful inline-six engine, well-balanced chassis, and sport-tuned steering, it provides a level of engagement and confidence uncommon in the industry.”
