The Mazda CX-5 has been our best-selling vehicle since its debut in 2012. It has sold over 1.6 million units in the U.S. and 4.5 million globally. The story continues with the arrival of the 2026 CX-5. This third-generation model remains true to its original mission. It adds more interior space, new technology, and enhanced vehicle safety, making this popular SUV more engaging, capable, and desirable than ever.
The exterior design retains the essence of the “Kodo – Soul of Motion” design language. However, it has been elevated by adding elements from the “Wearable Gear” concept, embodying flexibility and approachability in its overall design. You will find a modified grille design and enhanced LED lighting up front and in the rear. The rear design now includes horizontal lighting signatures and new Mazda badges. Overall length and wheelbase have been stretched by another 4.5 inches compared to the outgoing model.
You will appreciate the new interior design with more rear seat room, larger door openings, and a longer cargo area. In the center of the updated dashboard is a large 15.6-inch integrated touchscreen display. The system includes Google Built-in, which integrates key Google apps and services through natural voice recognition and artificial intelligence. You can add more apps and services through the Google Play Store, specifically curated for your 2026 CX-5.
The CX-5 has always been one of the safest vehicles in its class. That tradition continues with the latest features as part of the Advanced Driver Assistance System. This integrated system inspires confidence while traversing our freeways in and around the Houston area and beyond.
At launch, the 2026 CX-5 will be powered by a 187-horsepower 2.5-liter SkyActiv-G four-cylinder engine with 186 pound-feet of torque. It will be paired with a six-speed automatic transmission and standard i-Activ all-wheel drive. This driveline has served as the backbone of the CX-5 with proven reliability. For this new generation model, expect a relaxed and quieter operation, along with more flexibility and power takeoff than before.
There is another driveline coming for the new-generation CX-5 for 2027. It will combine the upcoming SkyActiv-Z engine and the Mazda Hybrid System with the task of delivering higher performance, lower emissions, and improved fuel economy. Yet, it will still move you, as a Mazda should.
