Ever since its debut in 2003 as a 2004 model, the MAZDA3 has been a remarkable choice in the compact car market. Over its four generations, the MAZDA3 has been offered as either a compact sport sedan or a hatchback. The hatchback proves that you don't need an SUV or crossover for versatility, especially after all-wheel drive became available in 2021. It's also worth noting that these are not just the same body with different rear ends; they share only the hood and headlights. MAZDA3 2.5 S 

Starting MSRP: Sedan: $24,550 Hatchback: $25,550 

The 2.5 S is the entry-level model in the MAZDA3 lineup. It is available in both sedan and hatchback configurations. Like most models in the lineup, it is powered by a SKYACTIV-G 2.5-liter inline-4 engine. SKYACTIV refers to a family of engines Mazda produces that have an unusually high compression ratio of 14.0:1 (8:1 to 12:1 is standard), which allows for more powerful combustion and greater efficiency. The engine delivers 186 hp @ 6,000 rpm and a peak torque of 186 lb-ft @ 4,000 rpm. It is paired with a SKYACTIV®-Drive 6-speed automatic transmission with manual and Sport modes, sending power to the front wheels. The EPA estimates combined fuel economy at 26 mpg city / 35 mpg highway / 29 mpg overall. 

As with all MAZDA3 models, the 2.5 S comes standard with the iActivsense suite of driver and safety technologies, including:

2.5 S Select Sport 

Starting MSRP: Sedan: $25,440 Hatchback: $26,740 

The Mazda3 2.5 S Select Sport upgrades the base model with thoughtful features that improve both convenience and style. You'll enjoy amenities like Mazda Advanced Keyless Entry, rain-sensing windshield wipers, dual-zone automatic climate control, and a rear center armrest with cup holders. Inside, the black leatherette seats, leather-wrapped steering wheel, and shift knob add a touch of luxury. Outside, the eye-catching 18-inch black aluminum alloy wheels and matching black heated door mirrors are a standout feature. The Select Sport is also the entry model for Alexa Built-in, allowing easy voice commands for climate, audio, and compatible smart home devices, all while on the move. 

2.5 S Preferred 

Starting MSRP: Sedan: $27,090 Hatchback: $28,440 

The Preferred trim adds some exciting features, including a power sliding-glass moonroof, heated front seats, and an eight-way power-adjustable driver's seat with comfortable power lumbar support and memory settings. Sedan models also give you the lovely option of Greige leatherette seats, while the hatchbacks come with stylish black leatherette as standard. Outside, there are some eye-catching details, where the Preferred trades sporty refinement for sedans, with body-colored side mirrors that tilt down when reversing, and elegant silver-finish 18-inch wheels. Meanwhile, the hatchbacks feature sleek gray metallic 18-inch wheels. 

2.5 S Carbon Edition 

Starting MSRP: Sedan: $30,210 Hatchback: $31,450 

Besides offering the all-weather confidence of all-wheel drive, the Mazda3 Carbon Edition stands out with all trims featuring a striking Polymetal Gray exterior, complemented by gloss-black heated door mirrors and black 18-inch aluminum alloy wheels. Inside, it provides a bold red leather interior with wireless capabilities for both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as Qi wireless phone charging. 

2.5 S Premium 

Starting MSRP: Sedan: n/a Hatchback: $31,360 

Mazda keeps the 3-pedal hot hatch alive with a 6-speed manual transmission that features Mazda's legendary shift linkage, with all power going to the front wheels. Inside, manual enthusiasts will appreciate the Bose 12-speaker premium audio system with stylish aluminum speaker grilles, a three-month trial subscription to SiriusXM satellite radio, a vibrant full-color windshield-projected Active Driving Display, Adaptive Front-lighting System, Traffic Sign Recognition, and Mazda Online Navigation with convenient over-the-air update capabilities. Leather seats are available in elegant black or red. The exterior has 18-inch black-finish aluminum alloy wheels paired with signature LED headlights and taillights, giving this exciting trim a sleek look.  

2.5 Turbo Premium Plus 

Starting MSRP: Sedan: $36,740 Hatchback: $37,890 

At the top of the model lineup, adding a turbocharger to the 2.5-liter engine really boosts the fun, now producing 227 horsepower at 5,000 rpm and a peak torque of 310 lb-ft at just 2,000 rpm. The additional power can be managed using paddle shifters for the 6-speed automatic before it is sent to all four wheels. The exterior features gloss-black accents, with the sedan sporting a sleek blacked-out rear spoiler and the hatchback featuring both a rear spoiler and a front air dam.    

Inside, leather seats come in black or red for the hatchback and black or white for the sedan, complemented by a premium Bose 12-speaker sound system. The tech upgrades are impressive, including features such as:
